Definition:

Integration; is defined as the act or process of merging into an integral whole.

Automation; can be defined as the technology by which a process or procedure is performed without human assistance.

Integration of devices, components and subsystems within the home and corporate environments has grown in popularity over the last decade and has increased the comfort and quality of life for the client. So what does it mean to have an integrated system or automated system? We first must look at what can be integrated and how we can address the automated system.

There are various devices, components and subsystems that can be integrated in the home or office some examples are;

Devices:

  • Personal Device and Laptops
  • Computers
  • Light Bulbs
  • Appliances
  • Gaming Devices

Components:

  • Audio Video Equipment
  • Monitors
  • Surveillance Cameras
  • Door Locks
  • Garage Door Openers
  • Thermostats

Subsystems:

  • Control Systems
  • Networks
  • Video and Audio Conference Systems
  • Lighting Systems
  • HVAC Systems
  • Security Systems
  • Surveillance Systems
  • Irrigation Systems

In addition to the advanced knowledge of the components and subsystems, an integrator should also have an understanding of computer hardware, software, and Networking Systems. Integration engineers typically have a degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other technical disciplines. Solving system integration problems requires the ability to understand all the different components of a deployed solution.

More importantly, it is the integration company’s training, knowledge, and experiences along with their communications skills that make a good integration company. Training, is not only knowing how to install, setup and program a subsystem, but it is also having a working relationship with the manufacturers should questions or issues arise. Knowledge, to know the proper questions to ask the client, or the manufacturer when determining the proper solution. Experiences; All installations and experiences that we have had, provides the background and insight to perform the work required in any situation.
